Fiona Shaw
FIONA SHAW's work at the Abbey Theatre includes John Gabriel Borkman, Happy Days (NT), Hedda Gabler (Playhouse, London; London Critics' Award, Irish Times Theatre Award, Best Actress), Medea (Queen's Theatre, London, US tour, and Broadway; Evening Standard Award, Tony Award nomination and Obie Award, Best Actress), and she directed The Hamlet Project. Work at the NT includes London Assurance, Mother Courage and Her Children, The Rivals, The Good Person of Sichuan (Olivier Award and London Critics' Award, Best Actress), Machinal (Olivier Award and Evening Standard Award, Best Actress), the title role in Richard II, Millament in The Way of the World, the title role in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and The Power Book. Work at the RSC includes As You Like It (Olivier Award, Best Actress), Philistines, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Mephisto, Hyde Park, The Taming of the Shrew, The New Inn, Much Ado About Nothing, The Merchant of Venice, the title role in Electra (Olivier Award and London Critics' Award, Best Actress), and The Taming of the Shrew. Work in New York includes My Life is a Fairytale directed by Bob Wilson and DD3 directed by Shen Shi Zeng. Other work includes The Waste Land (worldwide tour; New York Critics' Award), Woman and Scarecrow (Royal Court), Dido and Aeneas (Museumquartier, Vienna Festival), Julius Caesar (Barbican), Footfalls (Garrick), Bloody Poetry (Hampstead), Love's Labour's Lost (Octagon, Bolton), and As You Like It (Old Vic; Olivier Award, Best Actress). She directed Elegy for Young Lovers and Riders to the Sea (English National Opera) and Widowers' Houses (NT). Her television credits include True Blood, Trial and Retribution, Empire, The Seventh Stream, Mind Games, Love Song, Maria's Child, Persuasion, Richard II, Seascape, Gormenghast, Fireworks for Elspeth, For the Greater Good, Hedda Gabler, Iphigenia at Aulis, and Persuasion. Films include NOI Credevamo, Dorian Gray, The Tree of Life, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Catch and Release, The Black Dahlia, Anna Karenina, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Avengers, The Waste Land, Jane Eyre, My Left Foot, The Butcher Boy, The Last September, The Triumph of Love, Mountains of the Moon, Three Men and a Little Lady, London Kills Me, Super Mario Bros, Underground Blues, RKO 281, and Skin and Blister. Shaw has honorary degrees from Trinity College Dublin, the National University of Ireland, and the Open University. She was awarded L'Officier des Arts et des Lettres in 2000 and made an honorary CBE in 2001. Shaw trained at RADA.
